Community Legal Education for child contact workers

father and daughter holding handsGoulburn Valley CLC was recently approached by Berry Street to provide a series of Community Legal Education workshops to their child contact service team. These workers facilitate and support supervised contact sessions between parents and children. Supervised sessions can be court ordered or agreed to between the parents. Some of these workers are weekend staff and have limited experience in Family Law.

Two workshops were held at recent team meetings in July and August. The final session will be held in October. The first session focused on Goulburn Valley CLC and the services we provide. There was also a discussion about Victoria Legal Aid and how their services differ from ours.

The workers were particularly keen to discuss the eligibility criteria for both services. The second session focused on the procedures of the Family Court and the decision-making principles. The third session will look at the mediation process, as well as the impact of intervention orders and child protection orders on Family Court orders.
